Glenn Dumlao on Mancao surrender: Good for him
Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group director Senior Supt. Glenn Dumlao welcomed Thursday the decision of his former colleague, ex-Senior Supt. Cezar Mancao, to finally surrender after three years of hiding.
“Good for him. Siyempre I want naman na matapos na rin siya. Naawa ako, siyempre kasama ko ‘yan,” Dumlao told reporters when asked on the matter.
Mancao yielded himself to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) on January 30.
He is facing charges in connection with the twin killings of publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000.
He escaped from the National Bureau of Investigation in May 2013. He complained then that all the principal accused have already been cleared of the charges and are living normal lives while he remains detained.
Mancao, Dumlao, and Senior Supt. Michael Ray Aquino fled to the US following the double murder. They were eventually extradited to face the charges.
Dumlao has already been reinstated while Aquino was ordered released by a Manila court.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, who was accused of being one of the masterminds in the killing, has already been cleared by the Court of Appeals. The Supreme Court has upheld the CA decision.
Good friends
The AKG chief said he and Mancao remain as good friends.
“(We are) very (good friends). Doon ako tumira sa kanila sa Florida,” he said.
He said he visited Mancao at his detention center on the day he surrendered. But he clarified that he was not aware of Mancao’s plan to surrender.
“Nu’ng malaman ko (na sumuko siya) pinuntahan ko siya,” he said.
Asked how was Mancao, Dumlao said “very happy.” — RSJ, GMA News
