Bato dela Rosa skips Senate hearing on Jee's kidnap-slay to visit wake of 4 cops in Kalinga


Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa skipped Thursday the Senate hearing on the kidnapping and killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo to visit the wake of four police officers killed while serving an arrest warrant in Kalinga.

PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos said Dela Rosa is now on his way to Kalinga.

The killed police officers were PO3 Cruzaldo Lawagan, PO2 Juvenal Aguinaldo, PO1 Vincent Tay-od and PO1 Charles Ryan Compas.

On February 21, around 7:30 a.m., the police officers were about to serve a warrant of arrest against Willy Sagasag, who was listed as the top most wanted person in the country, and seven others.

A shootout ensued which resulted in the death of Sagasag and four police officers.

Three police personnel were injured. They were identified as Senior Inspector Eduard Liclic, PO1 Ferdinand Asuncion, and PO1 Ferdie Diwag.

Recovered from the crime scene were 36 pieces of 5.56mm cartridge cases, one M16 rifle, one rig, one long mag, three short and three long mags and 127 live ammunitions for the M16 allegedly owned by the suspect. —KG, GMA News
