Gov’t not sleeping on the job to beat COVID-19 -Palace

Malacañang said Tuesday the government was doing its utmost to keep COVID-19 under control after the Philippines once again logged a record-high number of confirmed cases in a day.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the government has been looking for ways to effectively combat the pandemic as the Department of Health announced 6,958 new infections on Monday, raising the total to 136,638.

“We may not be as successful, but I can assure you, everyone is working darn hard to find a solution to the problem,” Roque said in a televised briefing.

Roque’s comment comes after Senator Risa Hontiveros said the record number of new cases should serve as “wake-up call.” The opposition lawmaker pitched a “health-heavy plan” to address the public health crisis.

The Palace also agreed with the statement of Vice President Leni Robredo that the country’s rising COVID-19 cases could also be attributed to community transmission.
