CARMMA holds indignation rally against Marcos, Duterte

The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA) over the weekend held an indignation protest against the Duterte and Marcos families and a prospective tandem between the two in next year's elections.

The indignation protest was conducted at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), following the announcement of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s candidacy for vice president in the 2022 polls.

The younger Duterte has been reportedly in talks to run alongside former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos who is seeking the top position.

She was adopted by Marcos' Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) on Saturday as its vice presidential bet, though Duterte has yet to say if she will be Marcos’ running mate.

According to its profile, CARMMA was envisioned as a campaign network encompassing martial law victims, civil libertarians, peace and freedom advocates, and militant groups.

CARMMA demands that Bongbong Marcos acknowledge the abuses during his father’s term, and issue a public apology to the Filipino people. They also seek the return to the nation's coffers the ill-gotten wealth of the family.

A petition has been filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to cancel Marcos' presidential bid for his reported multiple failures to file income tax returns from 1982 to 1985.

Duterte filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president on Saturday, possibly running against her father President Rodrigo Duterte.
