Philippines receives over 1 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

The Philippines on Friday night welcomed a total of 1,164,150 doses of the government procured Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

The fresh batch of vaccine doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 past 9 p.m.

The country earlier in the day received a total of 1,961,300 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine donated by the German government.

Meanwhile, the Philippines had administered a total 100,019,137 of COVID-19 vaccine doses nationwide, with over 43 million individuals or 55.78% of the target population fully-vaccinated as of December 16.

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. urged the public to get inoculated against the viral disease as the country has enough vaccine supply.

“We invite you to join our Bayanihan Bakunahan and let us work together until everyone is safe. The National Vaccine Operations Center will continue to ensure that we have enough vaccine supply and administer it,” Galvez said.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III expressed hope that the country will continuously move forward against COVID-19 pandemic.

“This gargantuan milestone is a huge turnaround from the scarcity of vaccine supplies we have once faced at the beginning of our vaccination program. This sparks hope that we can continue to march forward in this pandemic,” Duque said.
