PNP: 29 areas under granular lockdown nationwide amid COVID-19 threat
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said the number of areas under granular lockdown nationwide has increased from 27 to 29 on Tuesday amid the rising infections of COVID-19 in the country.
According to the latest PNP data, at least 22 of these areas were reported by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), which covers Metro Manila.
Six areas were reported by the Police Regional Office in Mimaropa, while one area was reported from the Cordillera region.
The PNP said at least 70 individuals were affected by the granular lockdowns in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Earlier, 73 people were affected by the 16 granular lockdowns in effect then in the NCR, it added.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed NCR under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to 15, 2022, following the sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases.
The Philippines on Tuesday posted 5,434 additional COVID-19 infections, bringing the total tally to 2,861,119. —KG, GMA News
