Frasco vows to support Marcos' vision to revitalize tourism
Liloan Mayor and incoming Tourism chief Christina Frasco on Tuesday vowed to extend support to the Marcos administration in revitalizing Philippine tourism.
This as President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. picked Frasco to lead the Department of Tourism under his administration. Frasco, spokesperson of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, has accepted the offer.
"It is with profound gratitude and deep humility that I accept the offer of President-elect Bongbong Marcos to serve the Filipino people as the next secretary of the Department of Tourism," Frasco said.
"Cognizant of the necessity and effectivity of strong support for and among local government units, consensus-building, coordination, and collaboration with tourism stakeholders and the private sector, infrastructure investment, sustainability and innovation, job generation and social protections for tourism workers, and focused strategies on the development of our core strengths, I am eager to support President-elect Marcos’ vision to revitalize tourism so it may significantly propel the Philippines’ post-pandemic economic growth," she added.
The Liloan mayor said she witnessed the adverse effects of pandemic and calamities to Cebu. She said she has seen first hand the "positive impact that effective tourism governance can have on the revival of the tourism industry."
Meanwhile, Frasco expressed gratitude to Duterte for trusting her to be the latter's spokesperson.
"I look forward to serving with her and the President-elect as they usher in a new era of unity, prosperity, and hope for our country," she said.
"My gratitude also goes to my family and the people of Liloan for their unwavering support throughout my time as mayor. I will carry with me their love and affection as I heed the call to serve our country in a larger capacity," she added.
The DOT welcomed Frasco's appointment as the agency also expressed hope that the incoming administration will continue "the momentum that we have generated the past few months toward the revival, recovery, and resiliency of the tourism industry."—AOL, GMA Newss
