Incoming Energy chief Lotilla tested positive for COVID-19, DOE says


Raphael "Popo" Lotilla, who was nominated by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. as secretary of the Department of Energy, has tested positive for COVID-19, the DOE said in a statement issued Sunday.

"Secretary of Energy designate Popo Lotilla informed the DOE that he has tested positive for Covid last Saturday and is currently undergoing medication at home and self-isolation," the statement posted on Facebook read.

Lotilla has already informed Malacañang about the matter, the department added.

"He has informed the Palace of his medical condition and will continue to provide updates," the DOE said.

"Despite this, the DOE has been providing updates to the Secretary designate on matters affecting oil prices and other pertinent items for the immediate action of the Department," it added.

The Philippines on Sunday recorded 2,560 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide active caseload to 19,873.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the country thus reached 3,733,101.

Meanwhile, the recoveries in the country increased to 3,652,587, while the death toll rose to 60,641. —KG, GMA News
