Angat Dam water declining close to minimum operating level

The water level in Angat Dam continues to decline closer to its minimum operating level of 180 meters, based on the update of state weather bureau PAGASA on Friday.

From 184.38 meters on Thursday, Angat Dam’s water level now dropped to 183.99 m.

Angat Dam in Bulacan supplies around 90% of the water needs of Metro Manila, Rizal, and portions of Cavite and Bulacan.

Aside from Angat Dam, water level also slightly declined in La Mesa, Binga, San Roque, and Magat dams on Friday, according to PAGASA’s data.

In light of the declining water in Angat Dam, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently directed golf courses in Metro Manila to implement water conservation measures.

Affected establishments were Camp Aguinaldo Golf, Veterans Golf, Army-Kagitingan Golf, Villamor Golf, Club Intramuros, Philippine Navy Golf, Wack-Wack Golf, Manila Golf, Valley Golf, Sun Valley  Golf, Alabang Golf, Foresthills Golf, and Eastridge Golf.

Water shortage were reported in 13 cities and towns in Ilocos, Western Visayas, Zamboanga, and Bangsamoro due to El Niño as of May 6, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

PAGASA on March 22 declared the start of the warm and dry season in the country and the start of the El Niño phenomenon on July 4 last year. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
