SC suspends Pasay judge, court employee for alleged bribery

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the preventive suspension of a judge and an acting branch clerk of a Pasay City court suspected of committing bribery.

According to the court, the en banc placed Judge Albert Cansino and acting branch clerk of court Mariejoy Lagman of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 108 under preventive suspension for 90 days to ensure an unhampered formal investigation.

The High Court said the two allegedly accepted P6 million from a litigant in exchange for a favorable judgment in a civil case.

Last week, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo ordered the inquiry into the alleged bribery.

This came after Lagman was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation during an entrapment operation, which was prompted by an anonymous complaint that the Judicial Integrity Board received through email.
