'IF PUBLIC WANTS IT'

Camille Villar open to possible Senate probe on PrimeWater

Camille Villar on Saturday said she is open to welcoming an investigation into the PrimeWater

Senator-elect Camille Villar on Saturday said she is open to welcoming an investigation into PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp.’s services "if the public wants it."

“As I have said prior to elections, kung yan ang gusto ng mayorya ng tao ay wine-welcome po natin ‘yan,” Villar said at the sidelines of the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) proclamation of the 12 winning senators in Eleksyon 2025.

(As I have said prior to the elections, if that is what the majority of the people want, we welcome it.)

This is the first time that Villar addressed questions related to PrimeWater after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered a probe into its operations.

PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. is owned by the Villar family.

During her proclamation as senator, Camille was accompanied by her family, including her father, former Senate President Manny Villar.

In her speech, Camille turned emotional as she said that she was overwhelmed as her “journey hasn’t been easy.”

Her tears started to fall as she thanked her husband Erwin, her children, brothers, father, and mother— outgoing Senator Cynthia Villar.

Camille said she will “work twice as hard, stand twice as firm” and she will “exhibit leadership” that is about “showing up, standing up when it's easier to play it safe, and speaking out when it's more convenient to stay silent.”

Endorsements

In an interview after her proclamation, Camille acknowledged Vice President Sara Duterte, whom she forgot to mention in her speech.

“I’m certain na marami po akong nakalimutang pasalamatan. Isa na po diyan ang ating minamahal na Vice President Sara Duterte. Hindi po naging madali ang kampanya na ito para po sa akin,” Camille said.

(I’m certain that I forgot to thank many people. One of them is our beloved Vice President Sara Duterte. This campaign has not been easy for me.)

Asked if she also attributed her win to the endorsement of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., she said, “Of course.”

To recall, Camille has skipped most of the campaign rallies of the Marcos administration’s senatorial slate dubbed as the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.

Her frequent absence in the rallies started when former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested by authorities and detained in The Hague as he faced charges of crimes against humanity.

She was then endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte in a political advertisement.

In the middle of the campaign, Marcos ordered an investigation into the operations of the Villar-owned PrimeWater amid complaints about its services in some provinces in the country.

Malacañang has denied claims made by Vice President Duterte that politics was the reason for the probe.

Camille will be joining her brother, Mark, in the Senate, after landing on the seventh spot with 13,651,274 votes. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
