56,000 people flee Tino’s wrath in Capiz
More than 56,000 individuals fled their homes in Capiz for the safety of evacuation centers as the province was placed under Signal No. 3 due to the impact of Typhoon Tino.
According to Kim Salinas’ report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, some trees fell as a result of strong winds while some roads in the province were flooded and rendered impassable due to the rains dumped by Tino.
The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said a landslide happened in Barangay Magubilan, Panay town due to soil erosion, while felled trees blocked parts of Calle Martirez in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya.
Meanwhile, the Roxas City PDRRMO said they are not worried about the typhoon because they conducted a preemptive evacuation of residents.
In Barangay Sublangon, Pontevedra town, rescuers brought an injured man to a hospital after he was pinned by a tree felled by strong winds. The man was eventually declared dead on arrival.
According to a resident, the man stopped by to pump air into his motorcycle’s tires. The man saw the tree about to fall on his motorcycle and attempted to salvage his motorcycle.
However, the tree ended up pinning both the man and the motorcycle.
Police are coordinating with his employer and family regarding the incident. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/JMA, GMA Integrated News
