The United States Embassy in the Philippines warned American citizens in the country to stay alert for several protests that will be held in Metro Manila on May 1, Friday.

In a statement Thursday, the U.S. Embassy noted that several demonstrations are set to take place with thousands of participants as part of the commemoration of Labor Day.

“Local authorities expect around 8,000 protesters from various organizations at several locations, including the U.S. Embassy. The embassy is scheduled to be closed May 1 for Philippine Labor Day,” it shared.

The embassy said the following locations to watch out for are:

Manila

  • España Boulevard
  • Mendiola
  • Liwasang Bonifacio
  • U.S. Embassy

Quezon City

  • The Welcome Rotonda
  • University of Santo Tomas
  • St. Joseph’s College
  • The University of the Philippines

The embassy reminded U.S. citizens to avoid political demonstrations to avoid complications and violations on their immigration status.

They also reminded citizens to exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings and to follow advice from local authorities. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/RF, GMA News
