Bato Dela Rosa listed as 'defendant' by ICC for crimes against humanity
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has been included in the list of defendants on the International Criminal Court (ICC) website after the tribunal unsealed the arrest warrant against him for crimes against humanity.
The ICC identified Dela Rosa as “at large.”
On Monday, the ICC unsealed the arrest warrant against Dela Rosa for the crime against humanity of murder, at least between July 2016 and the end of April 28, during which no less than 32 individuals were killed in the Philippines.
The ICC noted that he was a police officer who held various positions in the Philippine National Police in the Davao Region, the position of chief of the PNP, and the position of director general of the Bureau of Corrections during the relevant time period.
Dela Rosa is currently under the protective custody of the Senate.
He has filed a new manifestation before the Supreme Court (SC) for immediate judicial protection.
The senator has also appealed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. not to surrender him to The Hague.
Aside from Dela Rosa, former President Rodrigo Duterte is also listed as a defendant. He is under ICC custody in relation to crimes against humanity charges over alleged killings during his time as Davao mayor and as president.—LDF, GMA News
