Palace to Bato dela Rosa: Marcos admin is ‘fair’ regardless of political color

Malacañang on Wednesday told Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa that the Marcos administration would remain fair and would not deny lawful assistance to any Filipino seeking legal remedies.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said this in a message to reporters after Dela Rosa expressed gratitude to her for saying that the government will uphold his rights as an accused in accordance with the law.

“Ang nais lang natin ipabatid kay Sen. Bato at sa lahat, na ang administrasyon ni Pangulong Marcos, Jr. ay patas, sumusunod sa batas, at hindi karasahan ang pinapairal,” Castro said.

(We just want to inform Sen. Bato and everyone that the administration of President Marcos Jr. is fair, follows the law, and does not enforce violence.)

“Ang lahat ng tulong na maipapaabot sa ating kababayan nang naaayon sa batas ay hindi ipagkakait. Kaya kahit ano pa ang kulay ng isang tao, dapat na manatiling interes ng taumbayan ang unahin at hindi ang pansariling pagpapayaman,” she added.

(All assistance that can be extended to our countrymen in accordance with the law will not be denied. So no matter what a person's color is, the interest of the people must remain the priority and not personal gains.)

The ICC earlier confirmed that the tribunal had issued an arrest warrant against Dela Rosa—former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP)—in connection with killings linked to the war on drugs of former President Rodrigo Duterte's administration.

Following this, Dela Rosa asked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for protection, saying he is one of the President’s constituents.

Castro emphasized Tuesday that even victims of extrajudicial killings are seeking protection, too, from the government.

Nevertheless, she said that all accused who are asking for protection, including Dela Rosa, will be afforded such in accordance with the law. —AOL, GMA News
