Marcos monitoring Super Typhoon Inday, orders full government response — Palace
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is closely monitoring the developments of Super Typhoon Inday, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Wednesday, according to Malacañang.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President has also directed the full mobilization of government agencies in preparation for the storm.
“Maliban sa mga ahensiya ng pamahalaan, si Pangulong Marcos Jr. mismo ay nakatutok din sa lagay ng panahon at sa magiging development nito sa susunod na mga araw,” Castro said during a press briefing.
(Apart from government agencies, President Marcos Jr. himself is closely monitoring the weather situation and its expected developments in the coming days.)
She said the President is urging the public to remain vigilant.
“Paalala ng Pangulo sa taumbayan, maging alerto at palaging magbantay sa takbo ng panahon.”
(The President reminds the public to remain alert and closely monitor weather updates.)
Super Typhoon Inday is moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon, prompting the raising of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over several areas.
According to Castro, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has cleaned drainage systems, particularly in garbage-clogged areas, as part of its flood mitigation efforts.
She added that all 73 MMDA pumping stations are on standby and ready for operation.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has also pre-positioned equipment in the Cagayan Valley Region.
“Naka-preposition na rin ang kanilang mga kagamitan kagaya ng mga trucks, backhoe, chainsaw at iba pang materyal na maaaring magamit sa oras ng sakuna,” Castro said.
(Equipment such as trucks, backhoes, chainsaws, and other materials that may be needed during disasters has already been pre-positioned.)
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has pre-positioned more than 4.7 million family food packs nationwide.
Castro said 217,000 family food packs have been stockpiled in warehouses across the Cagayan Valley Region, including 23,000 packs in Batanes.
The Department of Health (DOH), meanwhile, has placed its regional offices and hospitals under Code White to ensure readiness for any health emergencies that may arise from the typhoon.— MCG, GMA News
