Palace on P85 wage hike TRO: 'Fight doesn't end here'

Malacañang on Friday committed to continue pushing for the increase in the minimum wage of workers and at the same time listen to the concerns of business owners.

This, after a Pasig Regional Trial Court issued a temporary restraining order on the implementation of the P85 increase in the minimum wage in the National Capital Region.

Citing Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro said the government will abide by the court's orders.

“But the fight does not end there. We will continue to fight for what the government deems due for the workers,” Castro said.

“But the government will also listen to the concerns of business owners,” she added.

Castro emphasized that a “win-win solution” should be established for the employees and employers.

“It’s best to have a balanced perspective on this issue to avoid deeper problems for either side, finding a win-win solution for both employees and employers,” she said.

In an eight-page order issued on July 30, Presiding Judge Marie Joyce Manongsong granted the prayer of petitioners Readycon Trading and Construction Corp. and R-II Builders, Inc. for a TRO on the implementation of NCR Wage Order No. 27, "pending the resolution of the petition for declaratory relief."

The court enjoined the respondents, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region and the National Wages and Productivity Commission, from implementing the wage hike until August 13.

Labor Secretary Tolentino said he was saddened by the court's decision but added that the department will respect and abide by the ruling.

On Friday, he said employers must pay their employees according to the approved minimum wage hike that was earned before the Pasig Regional Trial Court’s issuance of a TRO. — BAP, GMA News
