Palace saddened by students' viral heckling of Marcos during Davao visit

Malacañang on Thursday expressed sadness over the heckling incident in Davao wherein several students appeared to shout expletives at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his visit.

The incident, which was caught on video, has since gone viral.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Davao has already issued an apology over the "inappropriate behavior” displayed by some of the students. The DepEd said that the four students involved are already undergoing disciplinary measures.

Without naming names, Castro said young people wouldn't learn proper conduct if the people they look up to are themselves without good manners.

“Hindi matututo ng tamang pag-uugali ang mga kabataan kung ang nakikita nilang iniidolo nila na lider o ang mga nasa paligid nila ay wala rin modo, palamura at nagdarasal sa kapahamakan ng iba. Nakakalungkot lamang na nangyari ito sa eskwelahan pa na nagpapakita kung ano na nga ba ang natutunan nila sa mga paaralan, sa bahay at sa paligid nila,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.

(Children will not learn the right behavior if their idolized leaders and those around them are without any manners, or foul-mouthed, or would pray for harm to fall on others. Sadly, this is happening in schools. This shows what they are learning in schools, in homes, and in their surroundings.)

“Let us bring back decency to our country. We should not allow our children to be neglected,” Castro added.

While the DepEd did not specify which incident they reprimanded the Davao student for, a video went viral online wherein students could be seen cursing the president as he boarded his helicopter.
