Nearly 586,000 people affected by Habagat, TCs Luis, and Maymay — NDRRMC

Nearly 586,000 individuals have been affected by the combined effects of the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its Situational Report No. 7 as of 8 a.m. Monday, August 10, the NDRRMC said 585,993 individuals or 170,593 families were affected across nine regions, 33 provinces, 225 cities and municipalities, and 1,362 barangays.

A total of 4,866 individuals were also preemptively evacuated in Regions I, III, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa.

Meanwhile, 32,830 people have been displaced and are currently staying either in the 293 evacuation centers or with their relatives.

Eight people were reported dead, nine injured, and one missing, based on the NDRRMC’s latest report. The council noted that validation of casualty reports was still ongoing.

The NDRRMC also recorded 635 flooded areas and 29 other related incidents, including landslides, electrocution, collapsed structures, lightning incidents, tornadoes or destructive winds, and other incidents.

Homes, infrastructure damaged

A total of 306 houses were reported damaged, including 286 partially damaged and 20 destroyed.

Meanwhile, 323 infrastructure facilities were reported damaged, with the estimated cost of damage placed at P1.12 billion.

The NDRRMC also reported disruptions to transportation and utilities.

A total of 437 road sections and 27 bridge sections were affected.

For ports, 24 seaports were affected, with six already restored and operating at 25% capacity, according to the report. No airports were reported affected, and there were no canceled flights as of the reporting time.

The report said 383 passengers, 44 rolling cargoes, and five vessels were stranded.

Power, water, and communications affected

The weather disturbances also affected basic utilities.

A total of 65 cities and municipalities experienced power disruptions, with 52 restored.

For water supply, four cities and municipalities were affected, with one restored

Two cities and municipalities experienced disruptions in communication lines, both of which had been restored.

Classes, work suspended

The NDRRMC also recorded 556 cities and municipalities with class suspensions and 426 cities and municipalities with work suspensions.
