DBM submits proposed ₱7.2-trillion 2027 budget to Marcos

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Monday formally submitted to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. the ₱7.2-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for fiscal year 2027.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro announced this during a Palace briefing on Monday afternoon.

She said that Budget Secretary Kim de Leon led the presentation of the 2027 NEP, with the theme “People-Centered Growth for an Inclusive and Resilient Future.”

“Nakatuon ang budget sa edukasyon, kalusugan, kabuhayan, seguridad, at pagpapalakas ng mga komunidad,” Castro said.

(The budget focuses on education, health, livelihood, security, and strengthening of communities.)

“Layunin nitong gawing mas kapakipakinabang ang bawat pisong pangpublikong pondo sa pamamagitan ng mas mahusay na serbisyo at mas maraming oportunidad para sa mga Pilipino,” she added.

(It aims to make every peso of public funds more beneficial through better services and more opportunities for Filipinos.)

The Palace official said that the proposed 2027 budget will be turned over to Congress on Tuesday, August 11, marking the next step in the national budget process.

She said the DBM is also scheduled to hold a press briefing at Malacañang on Tuesday at 1 p.m. to provide further details regarding the NEP 2027.

Under Section 22, Article VII of the Constitution, the President must submit the proposed national budget to Congress within 30 days from the opening of the regular legislative session, which coincides with the SONA.

The Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC), chaired by the DBM, has set the national budget next year at ₱7.2 trillion, equivalent to 21.7% of the country's gross domestic product.

The ₱7.2-trillion national budget ceiling for 2027 is also 6% higher than the ₱6.793-trillion budget this year. — RSJ, GMA News
