Baguio suspends gov't work, lifts number coding on Thursday amid Habagat

Work in government offices in Baguio City was suspended from noon onwards on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in light of the effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

In a statement, the city’s public information office said Acting Mayor Faustino Olowan issued Executive Order No. 133 citing forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds over Northern Luzon, including Baguio.

The weather conditions could trigger flooding, landslides and other rain-induced hazards.

Under the order, work in Baguio City government offices was suspended starting 12 p.m. on Thursday.

However, departments involved in critical emergency services and disaster risk reduction and management will maintain an adequate workforce to ensure the continued delivery of essential services.

These include the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Building and Architecture Office, City Engineering Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office, General Services Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Public Order and Safety Division, and Health Services Office.

Work in local offices of national government agencies that are not providing critical emergency services was also suspended, subject to clearance or conformity from their respective regional or central offices.

Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private businesses and offices was left to the discretion of their respective heads.

The Baguio City number coding scheme was also suspended for Thursday. —VAL, GMA News
