Cebu cop under probe for using impounded car

A Cebu City police official is in hot water over allegations he took an impounded vehicle for his personal use.

Under investigation is Chief Inspector Noli Cernio, former head of the city police's Theft and Robbery Section and now head of the city's Police Station 10.

Cernio is accused of using a Mitsubishi Lancer GLX that had been impounded for the last two months at the city police office, GMA Cebu reported.

No one has so far come forward to claim the vehicle, which now appears to have been repainted and sports a temporary license plate.

But Cernio claimed he had the vehicle repaired because it had damage. He denied taking the Lancer for his personal use.

For his part, incumbent TRS head Chief Inspector David Señor said the vehicle was not in the impounding area since he assumed the TRS post last July. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
