A local official of Aklan said on Tuesday that at least 13 beachfront properties in Boracay have to have portions of their structures removed.

"Out of the 18 na nakitaan ng violation, parang mga 14 o 13 ang kailangang magtanggal. 'Yung apat nakapag-comply," said Rowen Aguirre, executive assistant of the Office of the Mayor in Malay, Aklan, in an interview on Unang Balita.

Aguirre said a local ordinance prescribes that building rights begin 30 meters from the mean high water mark.

"From the mean high water mark papasok, 25 meters plus five (meters)—'yun po ang start ng building rights nila," Aguirre said.

He added that the local government will also implement the setback ordinance and widen some roads.

The said ordinance mandates that from the middle of the road, there should be six meters to the right and left.

"Marami tayong nakitang violation. 'Yung iba magko-comply. 'Yun din ifo-focus natin," Aguirre said.

He added that some resorts, commercial buildings, and residential buildings will be self-demolished.

Aguirre also said that Boracay Island Water Co. will fix the sewerage system. —KG, GMA News
