CHR condemns brutal killing of 16-year-old girl in Lapu-Lapu City

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Monday denounced the killing of a 16-year-old girl in Lapu-Lapu City whose face was peeled off from her head, and was also suspected of having been raped.

"The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns the brutal rape-slay committed against a 16-year old girl in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Bangkal, Lapu Lapu City. No one deserves to suffer from such violence, especially that the victim is an innocent child," the CHR said in a statement.

"This act desecrates human dignity and must be punished. To this end, CHR-Region VII will be dispatching a Quick Response Team to help in the investigation and in pursuing all perpetrators of the said crime," it added.

The victim, Christine Silawan, was found dead in a vacant lot on Monday morning. She attended mass on Sunday morning but went missing afterwards.

There was a slit in her throat and several stab wounds in her body. She was also found naked from the waist down, which prompted authorities to consider that she may have been raped.

An investigation is ongoing to identify the suspect or suspects behind the gruesome crime. — BAP, GMA News
