Cagayan placed under state of calamity due to Egay devastation
The province of Cagayan was placed under a state of calamity on Monday due to the devastation it suffered from Typhoon Egay.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan made the decision to do so on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office said in a post on Facebook.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 was raised over parts of Cagayan on Wednesday as Typhoon Egay first made landfall over Fuga Island in the municipality of Aparri.
Egay caused an estimated P1.4 billion worth of damage in Cagayan province, Governor Manuel Mamba said on Saturday.
Many residents who lost their homes due to Egay's strong winds and heavy rains sought shelter in evacuation centers. —KG, GMA Integrated News
