Typhoon Tino batters El Nido
A convent, hospital, and school in El Nido town in Palawan suffered damage from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, which made its last landfall in the municipality early Wednesday morning.
According to Mariz Umali’s “24 Oras” report, trees were nearly toppled by the strong wind and downpour brought by Tino.
A hanging bridge in Barangay Bucana was torn apart due to the inclement weather.
Before it made landfall in El Nido town, Tino also made landfall in Batas Island in Taytay, Palawan, according to the weather bureau.
Some residents of Barangay Cataban told "24 Oras" that they climbed onto their roofs to escape the flood.
The storm also tore off the roof of a covered court and toppled trees, blocking some roads.
Several staff and patients of the Northern Palawan Provincial Hospital were evacuated due to an unstable ceiling.
In Barangay Paly, some boats reportedly sank because of the large waves.
The storm also damaged some houses and bridges in San Vicente town.
Strong winds blew off the roofs of houses in island municipalities, such as Linapacan town.
The national highway in Roxas town was submerged, and another hanging bridge was damaged in Barangay Caramay.
Residents of Barangay Maoyan in Puerto Princesa used water gallons as flotation devices while evacuating to higher ground.
Amid rescue operations, a rescuer almost drowned as he tried to wade through the high floodwaters.
In Barangay Poblacion, a convent being used as an evacuation center was flooded, the report said.
A building at the Calandagan Elementary School was damaged by the bad weather.
