Magnitude 5.1 earthquake strikes offshore Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded offshore Davao Oriental on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake occurred at 7:13 a.m. and had its epicenter at 198 km S 51° E of the municipality of Governor Generoso.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 40 km.

No damage is expected, but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS said.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported the earthquake as having magnitude 5.3 striking offshore Davao Occidental, then updated it to magnitude 5.1 in Davao Oriental. —KG, GMA Integrated News
