Off-duty PCG personnel saves boy from drowning in Zamboanga City

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday commended the heroism of an off-duty PCG personnel who saved a child from drowning in Zamboanga City.

In a statement, the PCG lauded the professionalism of PO3 Al-Shier Alimuddin, who is assigned to Coast Guard Sub-Station Siasi.

Alimuddin was off-duty and was attending a private family gathering at a resort in Cabatangan, Zamboanga City on Sunday evening when he was informed about a drowning incident at the resort’s swimming pool involving an eight-year-old boy. 

Alimuddin rushed to the scene and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the unresponsive child, successfully restoring the boy’s vital signs and pulse.

The boy was promptly brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment and is now in stable condition.

“The timely and selfless actions of PO3 Alimuddin PCG performed even while off duty – underscore the PCG’s enduring commitment to the preservation of life and public safety, embodying the Bagong Pilipinas' core value of readiness to serve anytime and anywhere,” the PCG said. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
