Magnitude 6.4 quake strikes fear in Manay, Davao Oriental residents
People panicked and sought safety after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Manay, Davao Oriental and nearby provinces on Wednesday morning.
In the report of GMA Regional TV’s Rgil Relator in “24 Oras”, camera footage caught the tense scenes earlier in the day.
One CCTV footage showed two female employees quickly fleeing their office amid the tremors.
Residents on the street can also be heard screaming in one video.
At the Manay Public Market, vendors and shoppers immediately fled their stalls during the quake.
Strong shaking up to Intensity V was felt in Manay, Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur and Talacogon in Agusan del Sur.
But the quake was also felt in other parts of Mindanao and even as far as the Visayas.
Morning classes at the Magallanes Elementary School were suspended following the quake.
“They were able to vacate the building as fast as they could and they know where to go on their evacuation area assigned to them,” said school principal Vi-Cherry Ledesma.
Employees of Davao City Hall also evacuated to Quezon and Rizal Parks, and nearby open spaces. They later returned to the building after it was deemed safe by the city engineering office.
The tremor was also felt in Panabo, Davao del Norte, and in Makilala, Cotabato. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
