Marcos, FL Liza attend Manaoag Marian celebration

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos attended the 100th canonical coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag on Wednesday.

The canonical coronation took place at the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag in Pangasinan province where over one million devotees were expected to flock. The President offered a prayer during the Holy Mass.

"May this celebration be with our moment as a people whom you have called in this blessed place and renew our commitment to serve you and our neighbors with love and compassion through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag the Beloved Protectress and patrons of the Prophets of Messiah,” Marcos said.

"May our lives be filled with your blessings and may we always glorify you in our words and actions," he added.

The centennial theme, ''Inan Maria: Crowned in Grace, Calling Us to Jesus,'' highlighted the Pangasinense term of endearment for the Blessed Virgin, which is ''Mother Mary.''

The President and the First Lady formally presented ceremonial crowns to Apostolic Nuncio Charles John Brown, representing the Holy See.

The program also featured a reenactment of the historic crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus.

A grand procession of the revered image took place after the Holy Mass.

Fr. Roberto Reyes, O.P., Manaoag Minor Basilica spokesperson, said the theme commemorates the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel told Mary she would bear Jesus in anticipation of her role as the Mother of God. —VAL/VBL, GMA News
