NBI arrests man in Cavite for alleged abuse of 7-year-old

Authorities arrested a man in Dasmariñas City, Cavite earlier this week for the alleged physical and psychological abuse of a seven-year-old, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Thursday.

In a statement, the NBI said it acted on reports of the child’s relatives, as well as witness accounts and communications “showing a pattern of harm and threats inflicted on the minor while under the suspect’s custody.”

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday and has undergone inquest proceedings.

Charges of violating Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Act covering acts of child abuse, cruelty, and exploitation may be filed against the suspect.

The child is under the care of authorities, with ongoing coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to ensure necessary medical and psychological intervention, the NBI added. — JMA, GMA News
