Summer rains in Baguio cause floods, landslide
Amid the dry weather affecting several areas in the country, Baguio City experienced heavy rain that caused flooding and a landslide.
According to CJ Torida’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” floodwaters rushed through the streets of Barangay Irisan amid the downpour on Tuesday.
This caused mud to enter some houses, while others were affected by a landslide.
In Barangay Dominican Mirador, residents and authorities worked together to clear the mud and rocks that had fallen onto a house after a large rock had fallen and damaged its roof.
“Itong easterlies kasi mainit sa umaga hanggang tanghali, hapon, ito po ‘yung time na nagde-develop ‘yung mga cloudiness natin at nagkaroon tayo ng mga thunderstorm,” said Larry Esperanza, PAGASA-Baguio City chief meteorologist.
(The easterlies bring hot weather from morning to midday, and in the afternoon, clouds develop, leading to thunderstorms.)
The City Social Welfare and Development Office and other agencies have also provided assistance to the affected families. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA News
