Minor strombolian activity observed anew at Mayon Volcano — PHIVOLCS
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded minor strombolian activity at Mayon Volcano on Friday.
According to PHIVOLCS, the event occurred at the summit crater around 2:41 a.m. and generated ash plumes approximately 100 meters above the crater before drifting west-southwest.
"Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano persists on its 116th consecutive day, producing incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally known as “uson”, and frequent rockfalls," the agency said.
Meanwhile, continued activity prompted the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) to issue an alert for Mayon Volcano on Friday afternoon.
The NDRRMC shared that the volcano had another episode of minor Strombolian activity at around 2:04 p.m.
“Sumunod sa abiso ng awtoridad,” the advisory read.
