5 dead, 23 hurt as dump truck overturns in Benguet

Five people were killed and 23 others were injured after a dump truck lost its brakes and overturned in Kabayan, Benguet.

Footage from the scene showed people crying after the truck toppled on a national road in Sitio Guay, Barangay Poblacion at around 11:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Police said the dump truck was negotiating a downhill curve when it lost its brakes, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then tipped over.

Authorities said more than 30 passengers, mostly relatives, were onboard and were on their way to attend a graduation and wedding ceremony in Nueva Vizcaya.

Among the dead were three-year-old boys, police said.

At least 10 injured victims remain in hospital for treatment.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident, as of Friday evening. — GMA Regional TV
