WATCH: Lava effusion on Day 146 of Mayon's effusive eruption
State volcanologists shared sped-up footage of lava effusion with collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) at Mayon Volcano on Sunday night, May 31, 2026.
The footage posted by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on its social media accounts indicated that the lava effusion occurred from 6:55 p.m. to 6:57 p.m.
Earlier in the day, PHIVOLCS said a PDC event was logged at Mayon Volcano on Sunday afternoon.
The PDC flowed for 2,000 meters along the Mi-isi Gully. It also generated grayish plumes that rose up to 1,800 meters above mean sea level before drifting east-northeast.
Mayon Volcano is on its 146th consecutive day of its effusive eruption, which continues to generate incandescent lava flows, PDCs or “uson,” and rockfalls.
Alert Level 3 – which indicate intensified unrest or magmatic unrest – is still in effect over the volcano and entry into its six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited. — JMA, GMA News
