Kanlaon emits ash anew

Two ash emission events were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano early Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In an advisory, PHIVOLCS said the emissions occurred at 3:32 a.m. and 5:35 a.m. on June 19.

The events generated grayish plumes that rose about 300 meters above the summit crater before drifting southwest.

The ash emissions were captured by the thermal camera at the Lower Masulog observation station and the IP camera at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City.

Despite the activity, Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating a state of moderate unrest.

Under Alert Level 2, PHIVOLCS has warned that the volcano is undergoing increased volcanic activity and could produce sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, ash emissions, volcanic earthquakes, rockfall events, and other hazards.

Residents within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone are prohibited from entering due to the risks posed by volcanic activity.

PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor the volcano and urged local government units and the public to remain vigilant for any significant changes in activity. —VAL, GMA News
