PPCRV calls for volunteer for BARMM polls
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is looking for volunteers to help monitor the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
PPCRV National Coordinator Arwin Serrano said the poll watchdog is eyeing at least 7,000 volunteers for the BARMM polls.
"Mga 7,000 to 8,000 ang kailangan namin. Iba pa yung vounteers na kailangan sa Cotabato," Serrano told GMA News Online.
(We need about 7,000 to 8,000 volunteers. That's different from the ones we need in Cotabato.)
Cotabato City serves as the regional center and seat of the Bangsamoro government, where BARMM govenrment offices, ministries, and administration.
He added that the training for the volunteers will begin in August.
PPCRV is one of Comelec's accredited citizen's arms, which as are tasked to assist the poll body in its voter registration drive, ensure the integrity of the voters’ list, and help in voter education and information activities.
They are also mandated to help the Comelec in election preparation, provide citizen watchers in polling places, and assist the commission in post-election activities as deemed necessary.
Earlier this month, Commission on Elections chairperson George Garcia said the poll body is "very ready" for the BARMM elections.
To address possible issues, Comelec will deploy contingency machines—10 per municipality in BARMM.
“We have contingency machines, 10 for each municipality. That is why 6,500 machines will be delivered even though there are only 5,212 precincts,” Garcia said.
Comelec will also deploy spare batteries and establish repair hubs in every province. — RSJ, GMA News
