Magnitude 5.4 aftershock jolts Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental

An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.4 occurred southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental early Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

PHIVOLCS said this is an aftershock of the June 8, 2026 Mw 7.8 Offshore Sarangani and Mw 6.5 Offshore Davao Occidental earthquake.

The strong aftershock, which occurred at 5:34 a.m. was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.

This was felt in the following areas:

• Intensity IV - Kiamba, Sarangani
• Intensity I - General Santos City
