Minor sea level disturbance reported after strong earthquake off the coast of Balut Island, Davao Occidental
There was a minor sea level disturbance following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck off the coast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
"Based on the local tsunami database, it is expected to experience wave heights of less than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits," said PHIVOLCS.
"It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 11:49 PM, 14 Jul 2026 to 12:09 AM, 15 Jul 2026 (PST). These waves may continue for hours," the agency added.
The public is advised to be on alert for unusual waves and to stay away from the beach and not to go to the coast of the following provinces:
Sarangani, Davao Occidental
General Santos City
"Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coastal water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised," said PHIVOLCS, adding that there is no evacuation order in effect. — BAP, GMA News
