Two strong aftershocks jolt Sarangani in Davao Occidental
Two strong aftershocks hit off the coast of Sarangani in Davao Occidental on Wednesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
These are aftershocks of the magnitude 7.8 offshore earthquake that Sarangani and the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Davao Occidental last month.
The magnitude 4.9 earthquake southwest of Balut Island, Sarangani in Davao Occidental at at 9:23 p.m. with a depth of 33 kilometers and tectonic in origin.
The agency earlier reported that a magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred.
The earthquake was also felt in the following areas:
- Intensity IV - Maasim and Kiamba, Sarangani
- Intensity III - Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
- Intensity II - General Santos City; T'boli, Tupi, Polomolok, Lake Sebu South Cotabato; Malungon, Kiamba, and Glan, Sarangani; Santa Maria and Sarangani, Davao Occidental
PHIVOLCS said there are no damages expected but aftershocks may occur.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit southwest of Sarangani in Davao Occidental at 9:16 p.m.
The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.
This has been downgraded to magnitude 4.8 with a depth of 27 kilometers, which was felt in the following areas with various intensities:
- Intensity IV - Sarangani and Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Maasim and Glan, Sarangani
- Intensity III - General Santos City; Malapatan, Alabel, and Malungon, Sarangani; T'boli and Tupi, South Cotabato
- Intensity II - Santa Maria, Malita, and Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, and Maitum, Sarangani; Polomolok, and Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
