Couple loses motorcycle while taking shelter from rain in Taytay, Rizal

A couple lost their motorcycle from robbers while they waited for the rain to stop in Barangay San Isidro, Taytay, Rizal.

In a “24 Oras” report by EJ Gomez on Monday, CCTV footage taken on the early morning of July 29 showed two motorcycles— one belonging to the suspects and the other to the victims—parked parallel beside the road with the occupants standing beside their vehicles.

According to barangay officials, although the actual robbery was not caught on camera, the men who parked behind the couple were the suspects.

“Medyo alanganing lugar po doon po nagpapatila ng ulan yung mga biktima,” Brgy. San Isidro OIC Tanod Dominador Peñaranda said.

(The victims were taking shelter from the rain in a somewhat vulnerable spot.)

In less than a minute, the men fled on both motorcycles. One of them drove the stolen motorcycle, while another even attempted to swipe the victims' helmets.

“Tinutukan po ako ng baril. Binigay ko po agad ‘yung cellphone ko. Sabi po, ‘wag kaming kikilos nang masama or huwag gagalaw. Then, nung kinukuha po ’yung susi ko, tinutukan po ako sa ulo bigla, tapos tinulak po ‘yung girlfriend ko para makuha po ‘yung cellphone niya sa kanya,” the victim said.

(A gun was pointed at me. I immediately handed over my phone. They told us not to resist or make any sudden moves. Then, as they were taking my keys, the suspect suddenly pointed the gun at my head and shoved my girlfriend to snatch her phone.)

He added that another accomplice brandished a bladed weapon.

“Sabi po ng isa don nung nanutok sa ‘kin ng baril na, ‘Sige, saksakin mo, saksakin mo,’ tas napatingin po ako sa likod hinugot po niya ‘yung susi sa ‘kin. Napilitan na lang po ako na ibigay kasi andon na po ‘yung ano eh, kesa naman po buhay po namin ‘yung mawala,” he added.

(The one pointing the gun at me told the other, 'Go ahead, stab him! Stab him!' I looked back as he pulled my keys out. I was forced to give them up because we were trapped. It was better than losing our lives.)

The stolen motorcycle was valued at P180,000, which the victim had just fully paid off in March. The suspects also took two smartphones and a wallet containing P300 alongside several identification cards, including a driver’s license.

The victims reported the robbery to the Taytay Police.

During follow-up operations and CCTV backtracking, police spotted the suspects passing through Cainta, Rizal, riding the stolen motorcycle over an hour after the robbery.

“Kitang kita po don nadina-drive po nila yung motor ko. Apat pa rin po sila,” the victim said.

Authorities are continuing their pursuit operations against the suspects, who face charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/RF, GMA News
