Floods force evacuations in Cavite amid Habagat

Several residents were rescued in parts of Cavite as the heavy downpour brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat caused flooding in the province during the weekend.

In Imus City, at least 102 residents were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday. They were brought to an evacuation center.

Knee-deep floodwaters were also reported in some areas in Imus.

The PCG also provided free rides to stranded commuters from Barangay Panamitan to Barangay Kanluran in the town of Kawit on Sunday.

On Saturday, 22 families from Barangay Gahak in Kawit were evacuated due to floods. Among those who were evacuated were senior citizens, persons with disabilities, persons with comorbidities, and children.

In Barangay Niog in Bacoor, some residents were also evacuated due to calf-deep floodwater on Sunday morning.

PAGASA said monsoon rains are expected over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of the Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique will experience occasional rains due to the Habagat. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA News
