Ash emission observed from Kanlaon crater — PHIVOLCS
Ash emission observed from the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano on late Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The emission occurred at 5:28 p.m. on August 23, 2026, said PHIVOLCS.
"The event generated a grayish plume that rose 150 meters above the summit crater before drifting southeast, as visually recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory–Canlaon City (KVO-CC)," the agency added.
Earlier, volcanologists reported 5 ash emissions that lasted from 17 to 294 minutes or 4.9 hours long and two volcanic quakes while sulfur oxide emission reached about 2,020 tonnes on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The experts also observed plume that reached up to 150 meters, was voluminous moving generally in the east and southeast direction and there was also inflation of the edifice with short-term deflation.
PHIVOLCS said that Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano. — BAP, GMA News
