University of Cebu - Banilad suspends classes due to an alleged shooting threat

The University of Cebu - Banilad Campus has suspended classes after receiving an alleged shooting threat on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, that was thwarted by strict security measures.

"This afternoon, August 25, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. an alleged shooting threat was reported at UC Banilad, but the individual was unable to gain entry to the campus due to the university's stringent security measures," UC-Banilad said in a statement.

Cebu City Police Office acting Director Police Col. Ricky C. Sumalde and Mabolo Police Station Commander Police Major Thom Ed Taghoy II immediately responded and conducted the necessary verification and security arrangement.

"The Mabolo Police Station continues to closely coordinate with RACU7 and other concerned units as the authorities conduct ongoing verification and validation of the reported threat. The credibility, source, and circumstances surrounding the report are still being determined," the Mabolo Police Station said in a statement.

"The public is advised to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, and to rely only on official updates from law enforcement authorities and the school administration," it added.

The police said additional details will be released after findings are confirmed following verification and validation activities. — BAP, GMA News
