LPA east of Luzon may develop into cyclone, enhance Habagat — PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Thursday afternoon.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA was located 850 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.

Should it develop into a tropical cyclone, the LPA will be named Pilandok.

PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto said the weather disturbance could enhance the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, which is expected to affect Luzon and Western Visayas over the next four to five days.

Over the next 24 hours, the Habagat will prevail over Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro, bringing occasional rains.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region will also be affected by the Habagat.

The rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected over Luzon and the western section of the Visayas.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters. — VBL, GMA News
