PAGASA: Amihan Season to start between Oct 22-30

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season is expected to begin between October 22 to 30 as the seasonal wind pattern is undergoing transition, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

In a press briefing, PAGASA Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section Chief Ana Liza Solis said the agency is currently observing the northeasterly windflow, indicating that the Amihan Season is "soon."

"For now kasi malapit na. So nandito tayo sa transition, and usually ang normal onset ng ating Amihan ay between October 22 to October 30," Solis explained.

(For now, the Amihan season is near. We are at the transition, and usually the normal onset is between October 22 to 30.)

"Yun po yung normal onset natin ng Amihan based doon sa historical nating pronouncement ng onset. So nandun po possible doon nakapaloob yung pronouncement ng onset ng Amihan," she added.

(That is the Amihan's normal onset based on the historical pronouncement of the onset. So it's possible it may happen during that time.)

Earlier this month, the state weather bureau announced that the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) over the Philippines has officially ended, after it observed a gradual shift in the prevailing weather pattern in the country.

PAGASA Deputy Administrator for Research and Development Marcelino Villafuerte said the Philippines is already experiencing a strong El Niño, with the phenomenon likely intensifying even further before the year ends.

The average temperature across the Philippines is set to rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius during the El Niño phenomenon, according to the state weather bureau. — BAP, GMA News
