State weather bureau PAGASA said that Batanes and other parts of northern Luzon are affected by Typhoon Rosal (international name: Champi) on Friday.

In its 4 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said that Rosal was packing maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.

While Batanes is experiencing stormy weather due to Rosal, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Cagayan are experiencing rains and gusty winds due to the cyclone.

The rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Isabela are also experiencing cloudy skies and scattered rains.

Meanwhile, the trough of Rosal is affecting Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Masbate, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, causing cloudy skies and scattered rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect partly cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

According to a separate Facebook post from PAGASA, as of 2 p.m., Rosal was last spotted 355 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It remains within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Another low pressure area was spotted 2,395 kilometers east of Northeast Mindanao, but is unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. —LDF, GMA News
