11 areas across PH to face 'danger level' heat index on May 1, 2026
Eleven areas in the country are expected to experience a “danger level” heat index on Friday, May 1, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.
In PAGASA’s 5 p.m. heat index forecast, these areas will have a heat index ranging from 42°C to 43°C:
43°C
- Dagupan City, Pangasinan
42°C
- Bacnotan, La Union
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
- Iba, Zambales
- CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija
- Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City
- Sangley Point, Cavite City
- Coro, Palawan
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
- Iloilo City
- Dumangas, Iloilo
Heat indices between 42°C and 51°C are classified as under the “danger level” category and may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
PAGASA said the heat index reflects how hot a human body feels by combining air temperature and relative humidity.
When temperatures are too high, the body struggles to regulate its internal temperature, which can lead to an increase in body heat and strain on vital organs such as the heart and kidneys.
This may result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke if unaddressed.
The public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration. — JMA, GMA News
