LPA to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao

The Low Pressure Area (LPA) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to parts of Visayas and Mindanao while the easterlies will be affecting the rest of the country, PAGASA reported.

At 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 120 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Tropical Storm Hagupit (formerly LPA 05b) is being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Hagupit is located 2,015 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h and moving westward at the speed of 20 km/h.

Forecast Weather Conditions

Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Negros Island Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. Flash floods or landslides, PAGASA warned, may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies with flash floods or landslides possibly occurring during severe thunderstorms.

Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

The wind speed forecast for Mindanao is light to moderate moving in the southeast to northeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and the Visayas will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the east to northeast direction while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.

Northern Luzon, meanwhile, will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the east to southeast direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.

Sunrise will be at 5:31 a.m., sunset at 6:14 p.m. — BAP, GMA News
