Cloudy skies, rains to persist in Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA

Several areas in Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies and rain in the next 24 hours due to the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said on Thursday afternoon.

According to PAGASA’s 4 p.m. public weather forecast, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Palawan, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and Sultan Kudarat due to the effects of the LPA.

The LPA is “unlikely” to become a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said. It was last spotted over the coastal waters of Picong, Lanao del Sur as of 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7.

Meanwhile, the easterlies are affecting parts of Luzon and the Visayas.

It will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA also continues to monitor Tropical Storm Hagupit, which is currently outside the PAR and was estimated to be 1,840 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h. It is moving west northwestern at 15 km/h.

State meteorologists added that winds will be light to moderate while coastal waters will be slight to moderate hroughout the country.
